Keep your disc healthy and pumping!
Disc protrusions, also known as a” bulging disc” or “herniated disc”, can cause low back pain, hip/pelvic pain, pelvis floor pain, sciatic pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel and other discomforts. An interverbal disc protrusion is evidence of spinal joint damage, swelling, inflammation, and expansion irritation nerve roots that may be affected by sitting, standing, raising yourself out of chair, walking, driving, using a computer, and of course lifting/exercising. A swollen, chronic, and severe disc protrusion may cause radiculopathy such as numbness in the leg, foot, arm, and hands, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and weakness or loss of neuromuscular control such as drop foot.
An interverbal disc is a flexible, gel-like pad with high water content that gives your spine its curves, flexibility, and shock-absorption. The disc is like a shock absorber and helps protect the integrity and strength of the disc.
A herniated disc, if not corrected with chiropractic adjustments, likely leads to disc degeneration also known as degenerative disc decay (DDD) or degenerative joint disease (DJD). Disc degeneration occurs when there are excessive loads on the discs causing the body to remodel the bone structure in attempt to stabilize an unstable spine joint. Degeneration is not a disease but is the effect of wear and tear from abnormal mechanics of the spine. Disc degeneration is often a result of an injury, stress or when the gel part of the disc starts to dry out from a misalignment from a past traumatic event such as an automobile accident or sports injury.
At Vertical Chiropractic serving downtown Sarasota and Manatee County, our experienced certified Gonstead chiropractors specialize in treating disc problems. With our team of top Gonstead Chiropractic practitioners, we achieve results where other healthcare providers have failed. The Gonstead technique is a gentle, non-twisting technique specific to each patient’s spine, condition, and goals. Chiropractic adjustments help realign the spinal joints, decompress the disc and nearby spinal nerves, reduce inflammation, and increase range of motion of the intersegmental spinal joints. Chiropractic care may also aide the body to recover faster and may help prevent disc problems, drugs, and/or surgery.
